Glossop Line

Northern run trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Hadfield via Glossop – trains take about 40 minutes to reach Hadfield, and run throughout the day, 7 days a week.

Manchester Piccadilly is just over 2 hours from London (Avanti West Coast services run from Euston), and easily reached from most other towns and major cities in the North West (an hour from Liverpool, for example), as well as Birmignham and the West Midlands.

Stations

Hadfield and Glossop are both quite close to each other, and to the boundary of the National Park – so pick which works best depending on the onward adventure you have planned! Glossop has more to see and do as a town (and is really beautiful), whilst Hadfield station is more on the edge of the town, and is perfectly located for the start of the Longendale Trail.

Worth Knowing

Both Glossop and Hadfield are relatively large stations, and are usually staffed, with ticket offices and machines.

Trains usually run once per hour throughout the day, but during peak times and on Sundays there are usually two train per hour in each direction. Services will show up as normal in any online journey planner. If you want the full timetable, you can download it from the Northern website (search ‘Glossop’).

Whilst the Glossop appears on the Transport for Greater Manchester map, TfGM concessionary fares don’t apply – so you’ll need to buy a normal train ticket.
